Kevin, an aspiring author who works as a mover of furniture, finds the diary of Margaret, a widow who died at age ninety with no surviving family. On seeing Margaret’s youthful-appearing ghost, Kevin manages to quell his fear when he realizes that the sexy apparition means him no harm. He quickly discovers that the recently deceased woman’s ghost plans to use her personal journal as her way of eliciting his help. Kevin and his wife Cathy, two young, uninhibited, amorous spouses whose passionate love for each other forms the main reason for their being selected as helpers by the sexy female ghost, discover the details of the tragic death of Margaret’s only child: a gay man who was stabbed to death in 1983 at the age of forty-two.

Convinced that Margaret will never be able to join her son and husband until the murderer of their son is found, Kevin and Cathy discover that Margaret communicates by causing cryptic clues to appear. They find that Margaret retains a sense of humor, a lively curiosity about sex, and a delightful giggle. As the two ardent lovers conduct their investigation, their efforts bring them even closer, emotionally. Their awareness that Margaret observes their bouts of energetic, passionate lovemaking fails to bother them in the least.

Kevin and Cathy put together a team, including the retired detective who investigated the murder, the current Chief of Police, and a number of gay males. The team members follow false leads and find themselves forced to reinterpret clues, but the search finally leads to a shocking revelation, justice for Margaret and the man murdered so long ago, and a deepening of the emotional bond uniting Kevin and Cathy.

Beware of amorous ghosts that appear in your bedroom! That’s the lesson the characters in Margaret’s Diary by Robert W. Birch learn the hard way. Kevin is an aspiring author who works for a moving company while searching for the plot to his great American novel. One day he is cleaning out the house of Margaret, a spinster who has passed away, when something draws him to her diary on her bedside table. Kevin begins reading the diary and swears he hears noises in the empty house, followed by sightings of what he assumes to be Margaret’s ghost. He shares this with his wife Cathy and the two realize they were meant to explore Margaret’s life and discover the secret that’s keeping her from joining her late husband in the afterlife. A complex mystery involving the death of Margaret’s son Stanley surfaces, and the pair of amateur sleuths begin digging in earnest. Will Kevin and Cathy discover foul play behind Stanley’s demise? What other deep secrets will they uncover? Will Margaret finally achieve peace so she can leave this mortal coil?

Robert W. Birch’s style flows easily and at a fairly steady pace. He has crafted a story with an interesting premise and more than a few twists and turns. The finale to the great mystery is bittersweet without being maudlin. His characters are well drawn, giving us a vivid picture of an everyday couple involved in something that will spice up their humdrum existence. His depiction of Margaret presents a ghost with a naughty side she probably kept hidden while she was alive. Although the sex scenes deliver, I would have liked to have seen some variety and more creative coupling. I must admit that I don’t normally read paranormal romances, but I can highly recommend Margaret’s Diary.

Robert Birch spins a beautiful story about a twenty-five year old unsolved murder and a mother seeking justice for her son. The former Bedford Chief Of Police had not fully investigated the murder and from her grave Margaret screamed for justice. Kevin, Cathy, Bill, Mike (the original lead detective) and Nick (the present Chief of Police) all banded together to solve this twenty-five year old murder with Margaret leaving cues. Mr Birch spins Humor and hot sex, with this group determined to solved the mystery and help Margaret crossover!!
